The class will paint textural collage substrates using three Golden fluid acrylic colors. One of these surfaces will be enhanced with graphic shapes and painted over, one will be used as a substrate for a floral, and one will we developed into a rock-scape. The textural elements used to create interesting patterns on the papers may be added back onto the paintings as an enhancement.

3-day painting schedule:

Day 1 – Paint the color wheel and create at least three substrates using a variety of textures with fluid acrylics.

Day 2 – Paint a floral which will be adhered to one of the substrates.  Develop one of the substrates into a landscape using masa paper.

Day 3 – Use graphic shapes to enhance the surface. Finish by painting positive and negative shapes

 About the Artist:

Shirley Nachtrieb, a graduate of Fontbonne College, resides in St. Charles, MO. She is a freelance artist and teacher with over 35 years’ experience. Shirley is a signature member of the Society of Layerists in Multimedia, St. Louis Watercolor Society, the International Society of Experimental Artists, and the Missouri Watercolor Society. She is also a distinguished member of the St. Louis Artist Guild and a juried member of the Best of Missouri Hands. Shirley paints and teaches throughout Missouri and other states. Her painting mediums include watercolor, pastel, acrylics, mixed media, fiber, and handmade books.

 

Shirley is a four-time winner of the prestigious Grumbacher Award of Excellence. She is represented in Rockport Publisher’s book, Creative Watercolor by Mary Ann Beckwith and Pebble Publishing’s book, Best of Missouri Hands.  Shirley’s artwork may be seen on several websites including www.bestofmissourihands.org, www.missourifiberartists.org, and www.nachtrieb.com.
