SESSION I –Flowers to Landscape,  February 24-26, 2020

Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this workshop.  Janet will demonstrate various “fun” exercises geared to interpret flowers in a loose and expressive manner.  Discovering the unique “nature” of individual flowers and “finding” new colors will be highlighted.  We will also explore how to interpret the landscape from photos in an impressionistic style.

Demonstrations and individual help will weave throughout the workshop, with an emphasis on letting the medium of watercolor lead the students to new adventures in watercolor.  (PLEIN AIR – in studio!)

Some goals include “keeping the whites”, avoiding “mud”, intuitive color and composition.

Besides working with students individually and class demos, Janet and attendees  will enjoy “Show and Tell” – and opportunity to see class work together and enjoy!

SESSION II – Painting Children in Watercolor, February 27-28, 2020

This two-day workshop will focus on capturing the spirit and spontaneity of painting children in watercolor.  Through a series of “fun” exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach to painting from photos.  Students may bring in photos of their children, grandchildren, or any photos of children that interest them.  Photos should have good “shadow shapes” that describe the facial shape and features.  Flash photos are not recommended and are rather difficult to work with.  I will have extra photos with me of children that students may choose to work from.   Also helps with preparatory drawings.

Some drawing exercises will be included in order to quickly understand the gesture and character of the child.  Painting exercises will enable students to capture the lovely translucency of the flesh tones in children.

Daily demonstrations, class instruction, and individual help will weave throughout this two-day, fun, and  energy-packed workshop!!!.

Workshop will focus on flowers, trees, landscapes (and water).
