“Getting Physical: Gender Issues and Body Politics in the Gym”

This free panel discussion will center around artist Caitlin Albritton’s series of paintings that explore gender issues and body politics in a gym setting. 

Art Center Sarasota’s 2018-2019 season continues with a free panel discussion, “Getting Physical: Gender Issues and Body Politics in the Gym,” Wednesday, June 19, 6-7 p.m., at Art Center Sarasota. The event coincides with the current exhibition, “Let’s Get Physical,” by Caitlin Albritton— a series of paintings that explore gender issues and body politics in a gym setting.  The panel, which is moderated by Art Center Sarasota’s curator Nathan Skiles, will discuss perspectives on body politics, gender issues and interactions in the gym setting as portrayed in Albritton’s paintings. Panelists include Caitlin Albritton, Dr. Mary Davenport, PhD a licensed marriage and sex therapist, and Tim Watnem, owner of Balance Health + Fitness in Sarasota.
