Artists are the visual and conceptual explorers. I have to challenge my intellect with new and changing techniques, concepts, as well as new ways of handling material. Inspiration leads me to new discoveries which continually change, nudging me along in this artistic universe. Many of my 3D pieces depict a moment in time that captures all the detail both inside and outside in these small scenes. All of the structures are born from my imagination, sometime from past things that I saw in many parts of the country.
Born and raised in Chicago Illinois, Larry Forgard's art interests inspired him to study at The Art Institute of Chicago and The American Academy of Art, leading to a career as a graphic designer and art director, employed for over 20 years at a number of advertising and graphic design studios in Chicago. His career in both studio and freelance venues gave him the business and art knowledge which led to his future love and opportunity to become a college instructor at the prestigious Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida.
His teaching career included 26 years in the college program, in both 2D and 3D graphic design, drawing and mixed media, and approximately 18 years in figure dynamic studies. His teaching also included continuing studies for adults and workshops in North Carolina. Recently after retiring from Ringling, more time has allowed him to continue his exploration using new techniques and ideas in his work, including these 3D Urban Structure scenes. These sculptures have been represented in galleries in Chicago Il.,Washington DC, Boca Raton, Palm Beach, and Sarasota Fl.
