SESSION I –Flowers to Landscape, February 24-26, 2020
Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this workshop. Janet will demonstrate various exercises geared to interpreting flowers in a loose and expressive manner. Discovering the unique “nature” of individual flowers and “finding” new colors will be highlighted. We will also explore how to interpret the landscape from photos in an impressionistic style.
Demonstrations and individual help will be given throughout the workshop, with an emphasis on letting the medium of watercolor lead the students to new adventures.
SESSION II – Painting Children in Watercolor, February 27-28, 2020
This two-day workshop will focus on capturing the spirit and spontaneity of painting children in watercolor. Students may bring in personal photos of children. Photos should have good “shadow shapes” that describe the facial shape and features. Flash photos are not recommended and are rather difficult to work with.
Drawing exercises will be included in order to quickly understand the gesture and character of the child. Painting exercises will enable students to capture the lovely translucency of the flesh tones in children.
Demonstrations and individual help will be given throughout the workshop focused on flowers, trees, landscapes (and water).
