Views From the New Horizon: Portraits From Sarasota Magazine’s ‘Listening to Black Voices’ Series

The photo exhibition, created in partnership with Gulf Coast Community Foundation, will feature the work of Michael Kinsey and will be on view March 14-April 20, 2024.

Michael Kinsey's exhibition is an intimate selection of portraits of the interviewees from the "Listening to Black Voices" series by Heather Dunhill of Sarasota Magazine. The show highlights the richness and diversity of Sarasota’s Black community and, through the power of Kinsey’s lens, introduces the viewer to dozens of exceptional individuals who call our city home.

Heather Dunhill’s “Listening to Black Voices” interview series

For nearly four years, Heather Dunhill’s “Listening to Black Voices” interview series, published in Sarasota Magazine, has documented the lives and stories of Sarasota’s Black community, and each of those interviews has been accompanied by a portrait created by Sarasota photographer Michael Kinsey. Working in black and white, Kinsey has captured bold, atmospheric images of pioneering civil rights leaders, legendary journalists, dynamic entrepreneurs and experts in fields like education, health care and science.
