MEET RANDA PRIVETT
Cultural Historian, Writer, and Storyteller
Dr. Randa Privett is a cultural historian, writer, and founder of the Sarasota Academy of Cultural Studies. She specializes in art history and brings a rich, interdisciplinary perspective to her teaching, drawing connections between visual culture, modern European history, and travel.
With a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from George Mason University, Randa has more than a decade of university-level teaching experience in Washington, DC, at George Mason University, George Washington University, and American University. Since moving to Florida, she has taught over 20 adult and continuing education classes throughout the Gulf Coast/Tampa Bay region, including in the Sarasota County Schools system, 55+ communities, and local cultural organizations.
Randa’s engaging classes combine scholarly depth with accessible storytelling, making art history come alive for adult learners. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys writing historical fiction novels and sailing her Sunfish boat on Sarasota Bay.
